3D Printing at the Creative Lab
PLESE NOTE: 3D print service does not start until December 1st 2025.
3D printers are available in the Creative Lab. Bring your model, ready to print, to the Creative Lab and add it to the print queue. Prints are free at this time, but a fair use policy applies. Please be mindful of others when using the 3D printers. If you unfairly monopolise the equipment, you may be asked to return at a quite time or turned away to give others a fair chance.
When your print is ready for collection, please collect it as soon as possible during the Open Workshop times listed on the current Creative Lab timetable. Completed prints are kept for 5 working days only, after which they will be disposed of due to limited storage space. Post-processing and finishing are the user’s responsibility,
Technical information
The Lab is equipped with Ultimaker S7 and Utimaker S6 3D printers. We limit filament to Ultimaker PLA. If filament colour is important to you, please contact the Lab to check on current stock. Models must be prepared using the freely available Ultimaker Cura software. We use Ultimaker AA printheads (0.25 mm / 0.4 mm / 0.8 mm). Please make sure your file is set up for the correct printer, material and printheads used in the Lab. We do not use Ultimaker PVA support material due to clogging issues – if your file includes support material, this should be regular PLA. Bring your print job into the Lab as .3mf format. Jobs are sent to the 3D printers by the Lab Technician.
If you’d like to learn to prepare 3D prints, we run regular 3D printing induction sessions.
